Architecture is the art and science of designing a structure for construction. Architecture offers a wide variety of design professions that engage with all areas of the ACE industry and beyond. Architecture takes into consideration history, community, the function, and performance into consideration with each project.

EDUCATION

Earning a degree in architecture is the traditional path to becoming an architect. Most architects earn their professional degree through a Bachelor of Architecture degree program. Some individuals choose to earn a master’s degree in architecture, if they want to excel in their careers or teach architecture to others.

A typical program includes courses in architectural history and theory, building design, computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), structures, technology, construction methods, professional practices, math, physical sciences, and liberal arts. Students will use the skills and concepts learned in the classroom to create drawings and three-dimensional models of their designs.

SKILLS REQUIRED

Individuals that excel in the field of architecture have good analytical and technical skills as well as strong communication and visualization skills. Creativity is also an important trait as many of the tasks and projects in this field require a new way of thinking, or creating new design concepts.
