ASK AN ARCHITECT
“Pursuing a career in architecture not only allows you to work with all kinds of people and professions to design buildings, but it teaches you problem-solving skills that can serve you in any and every pursuit in your life.”
Earning a degree in architecture is the traditional path to becoming an architect. Most architects earn their professional degree through a Bachelor of Architecture degree program. Some individuals choose to earn a master’s degree in architecture, if they want to excel in their careers or teach architecture to others.
A typical program includes courses in architectural history and theory, building design, computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), structures, technology, construction methods, professional practices, math, physical sciences, and liberal arts. Students will use the skills and concepts learned in the classroom to create drawings and three-dimensional models of their designs.
Individuals that excel in the field of architecture have good analytical and technical skills as well as strong communication and visualization skills. Creativity is also an important trait as many of the tasks and projects in this field require a new way of thinking, or creating new design concepts.
